BEAUTIFUL isn’t a SIZE.

ree

I picked the topic of “Judging” this month as I feel we have to expand our minds. Let’s be honest – our first reaction mostly is to judge others. We judge because

we don’t pause, think, understand others’ situations. We judge because we feel as though we are more powerful than the other person. We judge because we think that we

know more. But the more we understand and empathize, the better we all can do. When we judge others, we do not define them, we define ourselves.

A few things that come to my mind –

1. Body shaming – I am sure most of us have been there at some point in our lives!

We are the way we are, for various reasons, whether it be home, work, or genetics. What we can all agree on is that - most of us are never happy with ourselves! Too fat, Too skinny, Too short, Too tall, Too anything! There’s a sense that we’re all “Too” something, and we’re all not enough. Yet, this is life. Who are we to add to others’ insecurities? Everyone has their own story. What we see is an incomplete story!

Our body structures are all different - Genetics, health issues, lack of motivation, depression, stress, sedentary lifestyle influences the way we look and feel. Yes, we all can do something about this – our choice! Be supportive and find ways to motivate others, instead of demoralizing them!

The other day I saw a lady who was running the half marathon with me. At first glance she did not look especially fit or athletic. But it is undeniable that she has to be applauded for this amazing will power! Ask any runner, they will tell you - running a marathon does not happen just like that! Hours of training, will power, discipline get us there. She was not sleeping in her bed or watching that TV like most do! Instead, she was moving. She finished strong with tears rolling down her eyes, and her body in pain! She did it! She is a true hero in my books. I can tell you every athlete out there was not looking at her size that day, but her strength and endurance to finish that amazing race!

Learn to celebrate people for what they do! Look beyond what you see!

2. Throw compliments around like Confetti – Be somebody who makes everybody feel like somebody!

A very good friend of mine saw the new slim, strong, and healthy me after a long time. The first words that came out of her was – “Please don’t lose more weight! You will look old; your skin will sag”. Now how about a nice “hello, you look lovely. I see you are strong and toned. Keep this going, you look perfect”? Now THAT would have made me more confident. Be sensitive to others efforts and encourage their positive thinking. Compliment people. Magnify their strengths, not their weaknesses.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless– Mother Theresa

3. Weight – people usually don’t like to talk about their weight. It is their own secret!

The reason being, we are constantly worried that we will be judged if we say our weight out loud. We all should understand that the weighing scale is just a number! A person could weigh more because they might be taller, they might have more bone density, they might have more muscle, they might have more water content in their body, and a million other reasons. Why do we judge? STOP!

Weight does not dictate our HEALTH or OUR WORTH

4. Clothing Size – we are constantly judged by our appearance and the clothes we wear!

My friend would only wear large size tops as she hates body fitting clothes. I on the other hand wear body fitting clothes. It is an individual preference! Just because a person prefers large fitting clothes we assume they are big, and if they wear small, we roll our eyes! Let each of us live our lives the way we want to live – not what others want! If we respect others space, we would not be judging their decisions.

Beauty is NOT defined by the size of your jeans!

5. Skinny vs Big – Understand not all skinny people are healthy, and big people not healthy!

Stop making assumptions. Accept them the way they are.

Stop focusing on being skinny. Focus on being healthy and the weight will take care of itself. Instead being Fit should be the focus… remember, Fit is not a destination. It is a way of life.

By choosing healthy over skinny we are choosing self-love over self-judgement.

Society shapes what is acceptable and what is not. We have the ability to change how we conduct ourselves, if not totally then partially. It is for us to make the choice – Melinda J.Watman

I chose My logo for my blog page for a reason – it is a Unalome:

The Unalome is a symbol for the journey to enlightenment. I personally love this symbol as it reminds us that the path isn’t always straight, perfect or even in the “right” direction. Our paths to awakening are filled with missteps, lessons to learn, suffering.
